Circulating through the exposed pipes of your radiator is some very hot water or steam. The surface area of these pipes and the radiator work as a heat exchanger and are designed to transfer thermal energy from one medium to another. Keep in mind that the four feet of radiator in the corner needs to be hot enough to heat the entire room. That’s a lot of transfer and all the heat coming from your radiator can be a safety issue for any little hands, wet noses or other ungraceful occupants that may be in your space and happen to come in contact with the radiator.
Scalding is caused by exposure to hot liquids or gases. Boiling radiator fluid can cause serious scalding burns and coming into contact with the exposed surfaces of a radiator can cause first and second degree burns. Scalding is the most common type of burn for children under the age of 14 and also has high incidents among the senior demographic.
By covering the radiator, you can cover the danger and effectively prevent accidents from occurring in your home keeping your loved ones and visitors safe. Remember to secure your radiator cover to the wall to prevent it from tipping over!
