How long does it take to assemble the radiator cover? Approximately 5 minutes for a novice. It is extremely easy - there are only 4 pieces; the top, front and two sides.
What tools do I need to assemble the radiator cover? You just need a philips ( X ) or slotted/flat head ( - ) screwdriver.
Do your radiator covers have a back? No, our radiator covers don't have a back, but we are a custom shop, so if you require one, please let us know and we'll be happy to arrange that for you. Many radiators are mounted so close to walls, that there isn't room for a back panel. Also, without a back, it is easier to remove the cover if you need to access the radiator.
How thick is the material you use? The wood we use is 3/4" thick.
Are you able to accomodate special requests? We are a custom cabinet shop - so we are able to handle many special requests we get from customers on a daily basis. Many of these adjustments are done at little or no additional cost. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Rounded Corners
- Enclosed bottom/no feet
- Modified overhangs on the top of the cover (front, back, left, or right sides)
- Custom paint colors
- Sizes beyond those allowable to order on our website
- Notching for quarter round or baseboard moldings
Please call or email us for more information.
Can you send someone to measure my radiators? In the Greater Toronto area yes, please call for pricing. For other areas, unfortunately no, but you can call a local handyman or contractor to help you.
How do you apply your finishes? We spray our finishes with high quality HVLP spray guns - the finish is professional quality, meeting or exceeding what you would expect to find at a high quality furniture store.
How do your prices work? We have integrated technology from our website into our workshop - so when you place your order, our cabinetmakers know exactly what to make very efficiently. Our prices are all based directly on our costs - so that we can provide you with the best value possible. That is why you'll notice that not only do our products seem to be better quality - and come fully finished - our pricing is also notably lower than any of our competitors. We also sell more than any of our competitors - so our costs are signifantly lower.
Is there a guideline for pricing? Unfortunately, there is no easy formula to share with you - but you can instantly get easy and quick no obligation estimates by entering your approximate dimensions in our order form, and using that for a guideline. If you choose any options, the quote is broken down by pricing for each option, so you can change your order to be within your budget.
Are there any special care instructions? Our radiator covers are finished using a high quality finish that is very low maintenance. There are no special care instructions, but to avoid scratches, you should avoid using abrasive cleaners like powdered detergents and steel wool.
Why are there size limitations on your order form? Our limitations are based on our shipping arrangements. Beyond the sizes that you can enter on our site, we have to quote shipping costs on a case by case basis.
Are radiator covers a fire hazard? While they do get hot, traditional (cast iron/hot steam/hot water) radiators do not get hot enough to start a fire. The only exception is heaters that are electric (for example plug in units or baseboard style) which should never be close to drapes, curtains, furniture, etc. Traditional radiators which are perfectly safe, are in most homes built from the mid 1800's to the 1960's and is the healthiest, quietest and most efficient type of heating.
How do I know how many panels my radiator cover will have? Generally, covers up to 24" wide have a single panel, between 24" and 52" have 2 panels and beyond 52" have 3 panels. Sometimes we add or subtract a panel to ensure that the radiator cover looks as good as possible (no oversized or undersized panels). If you have a special request about panels, we can usually accomodate these requests.
I am making my own radiator covers or I am repairing my covers, can I just order screens? Yes, email us a list of the sizes you need and the screen pattern, and we'll email you a quote.
